Gun stash turns up in Oak Bay incident

Husband pulls gun during domestic dispute

Police dissolved a domestic dispute involving a gun in Oak Bay Thursday.

Just before 2 a.m., a couple in their late 60s living at a house in the 3000 block of Oakdowne Road were embroiled in a fight when the husband pulled a gun and threatened to take his own life.

The wife called 9-1-1. When Oak Bay officers arrived, all exterior doors were locked and one had to be kicked in.

The wife was escorted out of the basement where the fight was in progress, by an officer.

Two other officers negotiated through “tense moments” with the husband, but were able to get him to drop the weapon, said Const. Laurence Riel. He was arrested and taken to Royal Jubilee Hospital for an assessment.

No one was injured in the incident.

Inside the house, officers found 23 long-barrel firearms and four pellet guns. Charges of careless use of a firearm and possession of a dangerous firearm are being considered against the man.
