During the April 26 council meeting, Coun. Bill Hadden suggested putting together a promotional kit to hand out during the U15 Boys and Girls Youth Provincial B Cup Finals in 100 Mile House on July 7-10.
Noting that between 350 and 500 people are expected to roll into the community from all over the province for the event, Hadden said it would be a great chance to promote 100 Mile and showcase what the district has to offer in terms of recreational opportunities.
Hadden added it would be an excellent opportunity to partner with the South Cariboo Visitor Centre and the South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce to put the information kits together.
Acting mayor Dave Mingo enthusiastically agreed and suggested the local clubs could be contacted to see what kind of events or opportunities they could put together for the weekend of the B Cup Final.
Hadden said he was thinking in terms of pointing out there are bike trails and a bike park, as well as swimming in the creek in Centennial Park. However, he said any other events would be a welcome addition.
Coun. Jeanne Best said the youths competing in the tournament would probably be tired from playing soccer all day, but it would be a perfect opportunity for their siblings and parents to get away from the soccer park for a while.
“Well, if we’re going to do this, we have to get on it right away because it’s coming up fast.”
With that comment, Hadden volunteered to contact the chamber and the visitor centre. He will also talk to 100 Mile House & District Soccer Association director Werner Heine about the idea.
