Mission Coun. Carol Hamilton has announced that she plans to defend her seat at the council table this fall when the municipal election takes place.

She joins Jim Hinds and Danny Plecas as current councillors who are seeking re-election.

“It has been both an honour and a privilege to serve on Mission Council. I am announcing that I will be seeking re-election on Oct. 20,” Hamilton said in a press release to the Mission Record.

Hamilton said, in 2014 her vision was for a vibrant downtown with empty buildings occupied.

“Today I am pleased to report there is zero vacancy in the downtown core and the revitalization of 1st Avenue is nearing completion.”

She also ran on fiscal responsibility and public safety.

“We have added five new RCMP officers that has contributed to lower crime rates and the capacity to target prolific offenders in our city.”

Hamilton said the district is in a strong and healthy financial position due to the prudent management of financial resources.

She noted the district’s finance department has been recognized annually, receiving the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting. This award encourages local governments to go above and beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles.

“The next four years and beyond it will be critical that we manage the development that is coming to Mission. We have started the process of comprehensive neighborhood planning including public consultation, a facilities review and an asset management assessment among other vital planning exercises so that future development is well thought out.

“I believe continuity on council is important to keep these initiatives moving forward so Mission is well positioned for future growth.

“My experience on Council will provide that continuity. I look forward to serving the citizens of Mission for another four years as one of your city councillors.”
