Commuters travelling along a stretch of Hammond Bay Road can expect months of traffic delays.
Beginning Aug. 6 and ending in mid-December, there will be single-lane alternating traffic on Hammond Bay Road between Prince John Way and Ricker’s Curve, near Stephenson Point Road, according to a city press release.
The traffic pattern change is due to construction work, which includes road widening, slope stabilization, sidewalk installation and improvements to storm infrastructure, the release notes.
“Increased maintenance has been ongoing at this location since late 2012 to keep the road surface to an acceptable condition. This project will address the issues with the road condition and create more space for pedestrians and cyclists,” said Michael Elliot, city project manager, in a press release.
Single lane alternating traffic will be in place Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Aug. 6 and ending on Aug. 30. It will resume on Sept. 3 until mid-December. However, lane alternating during those months won’t begin until 9 a.m. in order to accommodate school traffic, the release states.
The city is urging motorists to find an alternate route where possible.
