Martin, the famed Video Tonite store cat and calendar model, has been found.

Amber Price, owner of The Book Man, launched a search earlier this week after learning he had been adopted out when the video store changed hands.

Martin was a resident store cat at Video Tonite for many years, but was also featured in a cat calendar Price helps produce as a fundraiser for a local cat shelter. She put out the call that she was willing to adopt Martin to join The Book Man’s own store cat, Nietzsche.

But it’s not to be. She encouraged the Chilliwack SPCA to contact Martin’s adopted family so they could learn more about his colourful history and local fame. And it turns out he’s quite settled in, in his new home in Burnaby. He was adopted to a family with two children, and has no plans of moving again. Prior to living with the family in Burnaby, he was living with a long time customer of Video Tonite who had adopted him.

“Alas, he has made his mark on the family, and they have no desire to send him back to us – understandable, as all of us who knew Martin can attest to his wonderful disposition,” Price said. “While we will never see Martin again, we can rest assured that he was well placed, and is incredibly happy in his new home. He sleeps about 20 hours of each day, only getting up to move from sunbeam to sunbeam, and is well adjusted and enjoying his retirement.”

She is sending Martin’s new family a collection of photographs taken over the years for the cat calendar, so they can fully appreciate his special life.

“Thanks to everyone who offered information and helped to find out what happened to our dear Martin,” she said. “He is a very special cat, and will be incredibly missed by all of us.”
