The Village of Harrison will no longer be looking at creating a parking lot on Mount Street.
At council Monday night (Sept. 9), infrastructure manager Troy Davis explained that the property the village had been looking at for a parking lot was too unstable to build on.
Back in 2017, council had identified the need for more parking in the village, and asked staff to begin a feasibility study for a 1.54 hectare property on Mount Street.

While the property could hold about 50 parking stalls, there were also several challenges that would make creating the lot extremely expensive.
The cliff next to the property is extremely unstable, and the amount of excavation required to build the lot would make it more so.
“The property line is near the top of the cliff … and as far as the sub-grade, that was the concern,” Davis said. “We would have to dig so far down, and that could further destabilize that slope, and that would cause more issues.
“Most anything can be dealt with, but it would be very expensive.”
Council was in support of ending the feasibility study on the property, which had already cost the village $3,500.
