The head-on crash involved a Chevrolet Impala and a Toyota Prius taxi. Southbound lanes along Stewart Avenue were blocked, with traffic being diverted along Larch Street. One northbound lane on Stewart Avenue was also blocked as a result of the incident.
Sgt. Ken Cooper of the Nanaimo RCMP said two people were taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with minor injuries.
“With the looks of the vehicles, the injuries are pretty minor,” he said. “Cars nowadays are made to crumple to save lives.”
Cooper said he spoke to the driver of the Prius, who was walking around following the incident; a passenger in the taxi was also walking around and appeared to be fine.
