Two vehicles collided on the Courtenay bypass near Superstore Friday morning. The head-on crash sent one to hospital.

Three others, including a small child, were involved in the accident.

Capt. Greg Lamb with the Courtenay Fire Dept. says the extent of the injuries “are hard to say at this point.”

The vehicle travelling southbound came to rest on its side in the northbound lane.

Northbound traffic was diverted around the scene down Comox Road towards the Old Island Hwy.

The detour caused congestion around the Lewis Park area.

“Traffic was heavy today being a Friday,” says Lamb.
