Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Terrace and Kitimat until Wednesday.
A prolonged period of heat, considered extreme in this region, continues with maximum temperatures exceeding 28 degrees during the day and overnight minimums around 13 degrees. Temperatures will begin to fall slightly starting Aug. 7.
Very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose a higher risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. This can lead to weakness, disorientation, and exhaustion. Infants, young children, seniors and those doing intensive physical activity are more at risk.

Residents are reminded to drink plenty of water and stay in a cool place. Try to schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day.
With weather this hot, never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle. Temperatures can rise to 52 degrees within 20 minutes, according to HealthLinkBC.
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher on exposed skin and an SPF 30 lip balm. Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat, or use an umbrella for shade.
Call HealthLinkBC at 811 to ask about heat-related illness, and check out their online resources on how to protect yourself here.
