It must have taken quite a bit of work to move two statues off a well-lit porch in Popkum.
The rightful owner says the one statue, who she calls Mr. Bergen, is at least 100 pounds and stands about 42 inches high.
And she would really like him back.
“What’s mine is not yours,” Rose Marie Johnsen said.
She described the statue as made of concrete with a finish, and light green in the creases and folds.
“He is barefoot, bearded, wearing a belted robe with loose fitting sleeves, open at the front,” Rose Marie Johnsen says. “He is carrying a yoke across his shoulders held by his hands and wearing a traditional conical working hat.”
And she has had him for 27 years, and was shocked and saddened to find him gone. The statue was stolen late in the night on Nov. 18, despite his weight and size.
What’s even more shocking, she says, is the amount of strength it would have taken to steal a second item off the porch.
It’s a three-piece, white marble fountain weighing about 150-175 pounds, she says. It consists of a base and column, plate and large round marble ball.
“The ball by itself must weigh at least 70 pounds and is very awkward to lift, let alone carry,” she says. All together, the fountain is about 30 inches tall.
