This Saturday you can satisfy your sweet tooth while giving to charity.

HeBrews Café, a new coffee shop in Qualicum Beach on Second Avenue, is hosting a full day of fundraising for Haven House.

From 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. the café will donate 100 per cent of proceeds to Haven House.

“There’s a lot of violence that we don’t see here that’s behind closed doors,” said HeBrews manager Rebecca Lawson.

According to the Haven Society website, the Parksville Qualicum Haven House is a direct response to many local community members and organizations who felt strongly that women and children needed access to a safe shelter in their home communities.

This Oceanside area safe house provides temporary shelter to support women and children who have experienced violence and are seeking safety while exploring their options in Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Nanoose, Errington, Coombs, Whiskey Creek, Qualicum Bay and Bowser.

More than providing shelter, emotional support and advocacy, Parksville-Qualicum Haven House is a safe place to begin healing from abuse, according to their website.

“It’s just a really great place,” said Lawson.

She explained HeBrews will also raffle off an apple pie and cake and host a silent auction this Saturday donating the proceeds to Haven House.

HeBrews is a non profit business that opened earlier this summer in Qualicum Beach.

Lawson said that means all their profits go back into the community, and if there’s a natural disaster she said their proceeds will go towards helping with aid.

Moreover, they use Tienes grano coffee beans. Lawson said a local family goes down to Guatemala to pick beans with their producers and sends the money directly back to them.

“So it’s fair trade and direct trade coffee,” said Lawson.

HeBrews Café is located at 109 Second Avenue West in Qualicum Beach. For more information contact 250-594-3343.
