High school students from the mid-Island and Sunshine Coast descended on Nanaimo on Friday for the annual Central Vancouver Island Skills Canada regional competition.
The one-day competition featured senior and junior categories that ranged from automotive repair, computer-aided architectural design, carpentry and culinary arts to photography as well as public speaking, robotics and spaghetti bridge-building. Events were staged at Vancouver Island University, Nanaimo District, John Barsby and Dover Bay secondary schools in Nanaimo and at Cowichan Secondary School in Duncan.
Gold medal winners from the regional competition will have to the opportunity to compete in the provincials at Abbotsford Tradex on April 17. Winners of the provincial competition can compete in the national competition, which will take place at the Halifax Exhibition Centre in Halifax on May 28-29.
