Highland dance competition has been confirmed for May 17, the lone remnant that survived the demise of the Comox Valley Highland Games.
Participants are welcome from all over the world, although most entries come from the western regions of North America, said dance teacher Laurie Tinkler.
“We usually have between 150 to 200 dancers. The majority are from B.C., Alberta and Washington.”
The Highland Games ran for 18 years in the Comox Valley, typically happening at Lewis Park in Courtenay on the Saturday of the Victoria Day long weekend.
According to CVHG website, organizers do not feel they can present the Highland Games as well as they could in the past. For those reasons, they announced recently that they wouldn’t hold the annual event.
The dance competition will be held in Cumberland’s Village Park on Saturday, May 17.
