A highly intoxicated driver was taken off the road Friday night, after being spotted driving erratically on Quadra Street at a speed slower than most pedestrians.
Around 8 p.m., Victoria police were notified about the behaviour of a driver behind the wheel of a white Pontiac Grand Am.
Officers initially couldn’t find the vehicle, so they shared the licence plate with other regional police forces.
At 10 p.m., Saanich police were called about the same vehicle, this time driving “all over the road almost striking the curb,” Sgt. Dean Jantzen said.
When an officer caught up to the vehicle in the 4000-block of Quadra St., it was travelling 5 km/h in a 50 zone.
“The driver appeared intoxicated to officers, especially when her head appeared to fall forward like she was falling asleep,” Jantzen said.
A breath sample showed the woman’s blood-alcohol level was two-and-a-half times the legal limit.
A 27-year-old Saanich woman will likely face charges of impaired driving.
