UPDATED: A single-vehicle accident closed Highway 9 and the Canadian National railway near the Agassiz Rosedale Bridge Saturday morning.
A vehicle going northbound attempted to navigate the construction on the smaller bridge south of the main bridge went off the road and was hanging off the edge of the bridge deck, wedged between two of the bridge deck supports.
The Agassiz Fire Department conducted a technical rescue using ropes and harnesses to rescue the two people trapped inside the vehicle. Neither were seriously injured.
The Fire Department closed Highway 9 and halted railway traffic to avoid vibrations that may have dislodged the vehicle. The bridge reopened just after 9:30 a.m., but drivers are reminded that constuction in the area is still causing delays.
There is no word on injuries.
