Hiker rescued from Spineback Trail by Fernie SAR

An injured hiker was rescued Sunday by helicopter from a trail near Island Lake Lodge

Fernie Search and Rescue (SAR) was called out Sunday afternoon to respond to an injured hiker on the Spineback Trail at Island Lake Lodge near Fernie.

The hiker, a 61-year-old female from Montreal, slipped and rolled her ankle, breaking a bone.

According to a post by Fernie SAR on Facebook, their CDFL (Helicopter Rescue) Team responded with Ascent Helicopters to stabilize the injury and extract the injured person, who was transferred to BC Ambulance Service in Fernie.
