A weekend long celebration called Haida Homecoming will honour Haida children in care and their caregivers this weekend. There will be clan feasts on Friday in Skidegate and Saturday in Old Massett, dance performances, visits to the museum and Tow Hill, as well as opportunities to go surfing and root/bark gathering and a life book they can work on, said Haida Child and Family Services program facilitator Fallon Crosby. The children will also receive family trees at the clan dinners, so that the clans are able to add to them.”It’s to get the kids in care in touch with their families,” said Ms Crosby, “so they’ll also have lots of time each day with their family.”Ms Crosby said ten children from off-island will join the children-in-care already here in the activities.
