One Hope resident has earned some serious bragging rights as the NFL season draws to a close.
Garry Blanchard won the largest individual Sports Action’s Toto game prize this football season, coming away from week 17 of the regular season with a grand total of $77,316. Blanchard bet on the underdog Los Angeles Chargers to defeat reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers beat the 14-2 Chiefs 38-21.
Blanchard has been playing Toto for nearly 10 years.
“I was sweating and going nuts,” Blanchard said in a statement. “I knew I had the morning games all correct so I was really sweating those afternoon games.”

Blanchard had a solid week 17, figuring he’d won around $5,000. While correctly guessing 11 or 12 games would’ve been enough for him to win some money, what he didn’t know at the time was he’d correctly guessed all 13 games.
“My wife came running into the room screaming that I was the only one who had got all 13 games correct, so when I saw that I was in disbelief,” he said.
Blanchard plans to give back some of the winnings to his family.
The race to the Super Bowl has narrowed to four teams as the Chiefs host the Buffalo Bills for the AFC championship while the Green Bay Packers take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the NFC title.
