Two Hope woman are being hailed as heroes this week, after they saved a man from an oncoming train Thursday evening.
The train was travelling slowly, at about 5:40 p.m. approaching the 6th Ave. crossing. Bystanders saw a man standing on the train tracks in Hope, flailing his arms and yelling incoherently. The train blasted its horn but that didn’t deter the man. His dog was standing at the side of the tracks.
Thinking quickly, one woman pushed the man out of the way, and another grabbed him and dragged him out of danger. The women involved do not want their names published.
It’s unclear if the train would have been able to stop in time to avoid injuring or killing the man.
The man is known in the neighbourhood and is currently homeless. He and his dog are often seen around town and commenters on a Hope Facebook page describe him as polite and courteous.
