The Horsefly River will be reopened to angling from Quesnel Lake to the Woodjam Bridge on Friday, Aug. 31, after a temporary closed two weeks ago aimed to protect rainbow trout from health risks associated with rising water temperatures.

Cooling air temperatures have resulted in water temperatures dropping below 18 C, the ministry of forests said Thursday afternoon.
“This is an acceptable level to allow a catch-and-release fishery.”
Reopening of the river when water temperatures drop below 18 C is consistent with the Horsefly River Angling Management Plan, which was developed via a public consultation process.
