Chilliwack residents enjoying the brief respite from the recent hot weather are being warned things are going to heat up again.
Environment Canada says temperatures will again climb to the low 30s, beginning tomorrow. It’s a return to a heatwave that set at least one new record last Sunday and threatened another on Monday.
Temperatures on July 15 soared to 33.4 degrees, said Roger Pannett, Chilliwack’s volunteer weather watcher for Environment Canada, breaking the old mark for that date that had stood since 1958.
Monday was even hotter, said Pannett, but not hot enough to surpass the record set in 1979 of 34 degrees.
Nonetheless, the 33.7 still made July 16 the hottest day of the year so far, and 9.5 degrees above normal.
With the return of the hot weather, residents are being reminded to take precautions, and never leave animals or children in vehicles, even for a short period.
