House fire on Crestview considered suspicious

A second house fire took place in Abbotsford on Monday.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service was called to the home at 3546 Crestview Avenue at about 9:30 p.m.

Crews arrived to find heavy black smoke coming from the home, and they discovered that a blaze had started in a bedroom.

No one was home at the time, and the fire was reported by a neighbour who saw the smoke.

Crews contained the fire to the bedroom.

Assistant Fire Chief Dave Rivett said the neighbour’s quick actions prevented a more serious outcome.

“This fire could have taken off fairly quickly when we look at the amount of damage there is to the bedroom,” he said.

Rivett said the fire is considered suspicious, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

A firefighter on scene brought out from the home a milk jug full of what appeared to be gas.

The first house fire on Monday took place just after 6 a.m. at Beharrell and Hallert roads. A family of six lost everything, including two dogs.
