Local housing construction has experienced an upward swing.
There were 17 housing starts in Vernon in August, a six per cent increase from 16 starts during the same month in 2010.
Those 17 starts consist of 10 single-detached units (down 29 per cent from 14 units in 2010) and seven multiple units (up 250 per cent from two units).
Year-to-date, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports there have been 104 units constructed in Vernon.
That is down 39 per cent from 170 units during the same eight months in 2010.
