Housing vote a no-go in Langley until autumn

There is no vote planned on the Langley supportive housing project.

A project to house some of Langley’s homeless won’t be considered by Township council until at least September.

The proposed supportive housing project isn’t on next week’s council agenda, for the last meeting before a summer hiatus.

BC Housing and local non-profits have proposed turning the former Quality Inn in the 6600 block of 200th Street into a 49-unit supportive housing project.

If approved by Langley Township council, it will house local homeless people.

The plan has proved controversial with some neighbours, who are worried about crime and drugs in the area. Advocates for the homeless have supported it as a way to get people housed and stable.

Because of the October election, a new council will have the final say on the project.
