Some Aldergrove eateries have been preparing time-saving quick menu items for hungry car fans who don’t want to spend too much time away from the classic and custom cars that will be on view along the Fraser Highway during the Good Times Cruise-In on Sept. 9 and 10.
Other businesses are planning to offer promotional giveaways like free water, said Rob Wilson, president of the Aldergrove Business Association (ABA).
Others are going to bring in additional supplies of Cruise-In-specific items like sunglasses and sunblock, he said.
The association, which represents Aldergrove-area businesses, and has about 100 members, was planning to spruce up the Fraser Highway area in advance of the event, encouraging local merchants to decorate their premises and planning a cleanup sweep by volunteers in the days leading up the event.
Wilson said the arrival of the 2017 Langley Cruise-In is the biggest event of its kind ever held in Aldergrove.
“(We’ve had) nothing on this scale in this fashion,” Wilson said.
“It’s very positive.”
He said the Cruise-In volunteer organizers have been very helpful, giving Aldergrove business a good idea of what to expect and suggesting how they can handle the expected influx of cars and car fans.
The business community is hoping the event, and the tens of thousands of visitors it could bring to Aldergrove, will raise the community’s profile and encourage visitors to keep coming back, he said.
Wilson has been a regular visitor to the Good Times Cruise-In for the last five to six years and he’s looking forward to see it running along the Fraser Highway through Aldergrove.
“I think both us (the ABA) and the Cruise-In folks think this is a better venue,” Wilson said.
“It’s a straight line down (Fraser Highway) rather than spidering out (along side streets).”
Wilson expected the weather, more than anything, will determine the turnout, but he is hoping the Cruise-In projection of as much as 50,000 comes to pass.
