Salmon Arm’s Rebecca Howard followed up her disappointment at the London 2012 Games with Canada’s best placement in Individual Eventing at the 2016 Rio Games.

Canada’s lone representative in the Individual Eventing Final, Howard and Riddle Master roared up the standings to place 10th in Tuesday’s event final at the Olympic Equestrian Center.

After the dressage phase, the pair’s weakest element of the event on Sunday, Howard and Riddle Master were tied in 41st position overall.

Riddle Master is a horse that likes to go fast and enjoys the space that the cross country course provides over the more constrained dressage ring.

In a power move, Howard rode Riddle Master to finish 15th after the cross country phase on Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday morning, Howard and Riddle Master climbed the standings again as they turned in a clear round, moving them into 10th place and ensuring a spot in the final stadium jumping round.

In the final, the duo received four faults due to a downed rail and, at the time sat in third place, on the podium, with nine riders to follow.

After everything was wrapped up, Howard finished 10th in the Individual Eventing and carried the Canadian team to a respectable 10th place finish in the Team Eventing.
