Dust off those powder boards and skis Fernie because it’s about to dump.
Mainroad has issued a weather event advisory for the Elk Valley with up to 25cm of snow expected over the next 24 hours.
“A moist Pacific frontal system will move across southern B.C. today bringing snow to all areas,” said Mainroad in a release issued at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
“Snow will continue to intensify through the day as the front approaches.”
Between 15-25cm is expected with higher amounts occurring mainly over higher terrain, as well as northern sections of Kootenay Lake and near Fernie.
According to Mainroad, the snow will end near midnight for most regions as the front moves into Alberta. However, it will persist in the Elk Valley well after midnight.
In preparation for the snowfall, Mainroad will be applying anti-icing chemicals and performing snow removal operations on all highways until the event passes and roadways are clear.
“Motorists are reminded to please drive to the conditions and to safely give our crews room to do their work,” said Mainroad.
