Ice continues to roll

It was deja vu last week for the Isfeld Ice senior boys basketball team with three wins and one loss, running its post-winter break record to six and two.

It was deja vu last week for the Isfeld Ice senior boys basketball team with three wins and one loss, running its post-winter break record to six and two.

On Tuesday, the team faced Wellington (pre-season number seven in the province) in Nanaimo and controlled the entire game. The closest the Wildcats came was 2-2 in the first minute. Isfeld went on a 17-2 run to seize control of the game. The final score was 62-51 but Wellington never came within eight points after being tied. Thaskani Mtawali scored 35 and Hayden Fieret added 10 as the Ice upped its league record to 4-1.

On Friday, the team travelled to Esquimalt to defend its Firefighters tournament championship. In the first game, the Ice faced Reynolds of Victoria and lost in the last 10 seconds, 56-54. Mtawali scored 23 points and Fieret had 11 to lead the scoring.

On Saturday, Isfeld beat a game Alberni team 74-58. Aiden Mcdonald led all scorers with 22 while Fieret and Thomas Green each added 14. In the second Saturday game, Isfeld beat Oak Bay 45-24. Oak Bay was held scoreless in the second quarter as the Ice pushed its lead to 23-6 by the half. Green led the defensive struggle with 18 and Mcdonald chipped in with 10 points.

Isfeld plays a league game Jan. 30 against Vanier.
