The BC Coroners Services has confirmed the identity of a young woman killed in a boating accident on the Harrison River.
The woman has been identified as Chelsey Dykshoorn, 22, of Abbotsford.
She was travelling with three others in a Glastron powerboat along the Harrison River in Agassiz on May 31, when the boat struck a log chained to a boom.
Dykshoorn suffered a fall and struck her head. The boat operator immediately took the vessel to the nearest landing area, and Dykshoorn was transported by air ambulance to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. She died in hospital of her injuries the next day.
The BC Coroners Service and the RCMP are continuing to investigate the death, according to a press release from the Coroners Service.
An online obituary describes Dykshoorn as a “quiet, beautiful soul” and a “quiet and gentle young woman” who was “fun-loving and content with her small group of very close friends.”
