The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is investigating the death of a 27-year-old male in Guildford on Friday evening.
At approximately 10 p.m., the Surrey Fire Service and B.C. Ambulance Service responded to a report of an unresponsive male near a Safeway store at 88 Avenue and 152 Street. They were unable to revive the victim, who died at the scene.
As foul play could not be ruled out, IHIT has taken over the investigation and is working with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section and the BC Coroner’s service.
The victim has been identified as Greg Lupel of no fixed address. Lupel was known to frequent the Surrey area.
“Mr. Lupel’s death is suspicious and IHIT will continue investigating to ensure nothing is overlooked,” said Cpl. Meghan Foster of IHIT. “An autopsy and further testing is required to determine Mr. Lupel’s cause of death, and to determine if foul play was a factor.
“Anyone who knew, or spoke with Mr. Lupel is asked to call police.”
