The branch of government tasked with investigating officer-involved shootings is appealing to the public for witnesses of the RCMP-involved shooting that took place in Grand Forks last month.
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is seeking key witnesses to the shooting on May 10 on Donaldson Drive.
According to the IIO, RCMP officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop at 3:30 p.m. on May 10, responding to complaints of an erratic driver.
“Attempts were made to engage with the male, who then reportedly struck police vehicles,” the IIO reports.
Shots were fired by police and the male sustained “critical” injuries and was taken to hospital.
The IIO is looking for the following witnesses:
- The driver and or occupants of a blue/grey mid-size sedan travelling on Donaldson Dr. (north of Highway 3) between 3 and 4 p.m.
- The driver and or occupants of a light coloured/white SUV travelling on Donaldson Dr. (north of Highway 3) between 3 and 4 p.m.
- Any person who may have been at Motel 99 or who has any information regarding the incident are asked to call the IIO
Any of these witnesses should call the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.
