Impaired driver’s Jeep hits lake

Police responded to a vehicle overturned in Skaha Lake Thursday morning. RCMP say the driver was impaired.

An impaired driver suffered minor injuries and is facing charges after her vehicle had gone off the Channel Parkway and into Skaha Lake.

Penticton RCMP responded to an overturned vehicle at the south end of the Channel Parkway around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. It was reported that there were still occupants inside the overturned and submerged vehicle and officers entered the water to rescue any occupants, but found none.

The driver, a 36-year-old Penticton woman, admitted she had been alone in the vehicle.

Police gave the woman a breathalyzer test, which she failed, and she was found to be impaired. Her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

The woman was transported to the Penticton hospital by ambulance where she was treated for minor injuries.
