Every week, the Kitimat RCMP publishes a list of several of the calls they responded to that week. Here’s the report from Jan. 8 to 13.
Impaired driver
On January 8, just before 2 a.m., a Kitimat RCMP officer stopped a vehicle on Kuldo Boulevard after noticing the vehicle speeding. The driver appeared impaired and blew a warning on the roadside impairment test. The driver was also prohibited from driving under the motor vehicle act. In addition, the driver was breaching his court-ordered curfew condition. The man was released on documents and is to appear in court in March.
Intoxicated woman
On January 10, shortly after 1 a.m., RCMP received a report of an intoxicated woman causing a disturbance in an apartment. Police found the woman, who said she was just trying to get home. Police got her home and made sure there was a sober adult able to care for her at her residence.
Mental health help
On January 11, shortly after 2 p.m., the Kitimat RCMP responded to a report of a man who had made suicidal comments to a friend. Police were able to locate the man and after lengthy discussion, determined he should go to the hospital to be assessed by a medical professional under the Mental Health Act.
Another impaired driver
On January 11, just after 9:3o p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on Kingfisher Avenue and while speaking with the driver, began to suspect that the driver was intoxicated. He conducted a roadside screening test and the driver failed. The driver received an Immediate Roadside Prohibition for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Concerns of a fight
On January 12, just after 4 a.m., police received a report of a man and woman partying and possibly fighting. Police arrived and spoke with the woman, learning the man had already left the area. The woman displayed concerns of self-harm and was subsequently evaluated by paramedics. Police confirmed that no assault occurred and ensured the woman was safe and would be taken care of by a sober adult.
A third impaired driver
On January 13, just after 6:30 p.m., an off-duty Kitimat RCMP officer reported that there was a vehicle swerving all over the road and it almost hit a snowbank. On-duty officers found the vehicle and the driver failed a roadside screening test. The driver received an Immediate Roadside Prohibition for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
