Who says the spirit of Christmas is dead?
An informal group of Clearwater and area residents plan to put on a free dinner on Christmas Eve at Clearwater ski hill.
“We want to change the focus at Christmas from consumerism back to community,” said Shelley Sim, one of the organizers.
The plan is to serve a sumptuous dinner with all the fixings at no charge to up to 140 people.
“We hope that they will all get a gift as well,” Sim said.

Everyone is invited, but Sim felt the event would be most attractive to people without family or friends nearby, people new in town, and people who just want to celebrate the season and community.
Those interested in attending are asked to contact Sim at 250-674-1968 or email shelleysim@telus.net. Space is limited and so it would be best to reply early, she advised.
There will be no charge to attend, although donations will be accepted to help cover costs.
The dinner will be held at the ski hill on Dec. 24, with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. and dinner served at 5 p.m.
