Interior Health boss to step down

Dr. Robert Halpenny, IH president and CEO is resigning to "pursue other opportunities" this fall.

Interior Health president and CEO Dr. Robert Halpenny will leave his role this fall.

In a news release, the health authority said Halpenny, who has held the position for 5½ years, is resigning to “pursue other opportunities,” but wasn’t more specific.

“It has been an absolute privilege to serve our residents and to support and lead the more than 20,000 staff and physicians who provide care to our patients, clients, and residents every day,” Halpenny said in a written statement.

Halpenny joined Interior Health as senior medical director in 2007 and became CEO in 2010. He was previously executive director of cardiac services at the Provincial Health Authority and vice-president of medicine at Fraser Health.

Interior Health plans to hire a recruiting firm to find Halpenny’s replacement.
