B.C.’s novel coronavirus testing strategy has been expanded to include, however mild, anyone with cold, influenza or COVID-19-like symptoms.
While testing has expanded – which involves inserting a six-inch long swab into the cavity between the nose and mouth called a nasopharyngeal swab – experts say not everyone needs a test.
COVID-19 testing, for example, is not recommended for people without symptoms.
For those with symptoms, Interior Health has 14 testing and assessment centres located across the health authority including a site in East Trail at the Kiro Wellness Centre.
It’s important to note that testing at these centres is by appointment.
Anyone who needs a test should call their primary care provider, or the closest Interior Health community testing and assessment centre directly to arrange a test.
The number to call for Trail, as listed on the Interior Health website, is 250.304.5210.
Other testing sites include: 100 Mile House, Salmon Arm, Williams Lake, Nelson, Cranbrook, Vernon, Kelowna, Kamloops, Penticton, Revelstoke, Sparwood, Grand Forks, and Golden.
The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to other respiratory illnesses including the flu and common cold.
They include; fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, painful swallowing, stuffy or runny nose, loss of sense of smell, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, loss of appetite.
