Work on a brand-new signalled intersection on Highway 19A at Shelly Road will begin Monday, Oct. 29 with traffic interruptions expected.
Traffic delays may include lane closures, turning restrictions and intermittent alternating single-lane usage.
When necessary during construction, traffic will be controlled in all directions for both vehicles and pedestrians, according to the City of Parksville. Access to sidewalks and pedestrian crossings within the intersection will be dependent on construction activity and should be used with caution and at the direction of traffic control personnel when present.
Intersection upgrades will include installation of traffic signals, streetlight upgrades, crosswalk letdown modifications at all four corners, curb, gutter and sidewalk removal and replacement and line-painting.
The intersection is identified for signalization in the city’s Master Transportation Plan. The contractor, Copcan Civil, plans to have work complete in late December, weather permitting.
Final construction drawings are available on the city’s website.
Questions about the project should be directed to the city’s engineering department.
