Investigation into remains continues

Work is continuing on the search for more human bones in a Vernon orchard.

An anthropologist from Vancouver has arrived to help Vernon RCMP following the discovery of a human bone in an orchard in the 6000 block of Pleasant Valley Road April 1.

The bone was discovered by an excavator doing work for the property owner.

Police said earlier this week that a further search would be conducted on the property to see if more remains can be found within the area, estimated to be an acre in size.

The bone was discovered in an orchard that’s been around the North Okanagan for many years, and work was being done to add more trees to the property.

The anthropologist was brought in to use her expertise and experience in dating bones to try and determine how long the bone has been in the ground.

RCMP report the bone is definitely “not fresh,” that is, it hasn’t been put in the ground in the last month or possibly even the last year.

At the request of investigators, the type of bone that was found has not been released.
