The Qualicum Beach Seniors’ Activity Centre just made checking skydiving off your bucket list a little bit easier.
The centre is hosting the first Bucket List Challenge where individuals can sign up to take part in a tandem skydive with SkyDive Vancouver Island. The challenge takes place on Aug. 3 at the Qualicum Beach Airport from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is $400 per person and includes pictures and fully edited video.
The challenge is twofold—in addition to allowing people to experience the thrill of skydiving, it is a fundraiser for the Oceanside Hospice Society.
“One hundred dollars from each sky dive is going to hospice and then all of the jumpers are taking pledges and our goal is to raise $10,000. Hopefully we’ll achieve that,” said Pat Weber, Qualicum Beach Seniors’ Activity Centre president.
So far, 26 jumpers have signed up for the challenge, including Qualicum Beach mayor Brian Wiese.
The jump isn’t only for seniors, but Weber said there’s four members from the seniors’ centre signed up, two of which are in their 80s, and four from the Gardens at Qualicum Beach.
Weber said the centre plans to host a different bucket list challenge every year to help challenge and inspire people to do things within the community.
