Island Savings’ gala event held at the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit recently came up big for the Cowichan Valley and Lake Cowichan food banks.
More than $13,000 was raised with the help of local businesses, Island Savings staff members and volunteers from the community.
The event raised money for The Full Cupboard, Island Savings signature cause, a community-based program that raises food, funds and awareness so that no Island child goes hungry, says Brooklyn Mann, manager of the Island Savings branch in Lake Cowichan.
“This donation, $13,000, will be the equivalent of 39,000 meals right here in our Valley,” Mann says.
The evening was a great success, Mann says, thanks to the generosity of a number of people.
“It would not have been possible without the commitment and help of the community, including the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit for donating their amazing space, Cam Drew our auctioneer, Norm Jackson our emcee, Breanna Burghard, our photographer and the over 40 businesses that donated to our cause.
“It was a labour of love to see our community come together for a single cause and raise a ton of money to feed our local families,” Mann said.
