After his initial retirement from operating his own business over 10 years ago, Jack Schaffer has decided to retire – again! Schaffer is a familiar face to many – coming to work as casual driver of the Clearwater and Area bus system in August 2006, he moved to the position of senior bus driver in 2012.

Residents and visitors to Clearwater came to know and rely on Jack’s cheery greetings, helpful nature and knowledge of the North Thompson valley – and on fishing and good camping spots, and hunting, and motors – and so many other topics.

Staff at Yellowhead Community Services recently took an evening out to honor Schaffer’s 10+ years of service with dinner and a few gifts, and the board of directors presented Jack with a certificate of appreciation.

“As much as we’ll miss his mechanical knowledge, positive nature and ‘can do’ attitude at YCS, we want to wish Jack the very best,” said a society spokesperson. “His wife Carol will have her hands full getting Jack to work on the ‘honey do’ list – we hear the grandkids and fishing will be ‘taking the front seat’ with many good times planned ahead. Thanks for everything Jack – and enjoy!”
