Vanderhoof’s local RCMP detachment received 61 files, which included eight prisoners, in the past week.
Power knockout update
Alcohol is suspected to be involved in the crash that knocked out Vanderhoof and area’s power for over 12 hours on Jan. 9.
Upon investigation of the driver, the 31-year-old man is found to may have consumed alcohol.
The police demanded a breath sample for intoxication testing and upon refusal, released the man with charges for failure to provide sample.
He was travelling eastbound on Highway 16 when he hit a transmission pole near First Street at 1:27 a.m. Vanderhoof Fire Department and BC Hydro removed the driver from the vehicle in two hours and the individual was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
School was cancelled for the day, as parts of downtown Vanderhoof regained power at 8 a.m. and full restoration for BC Hydro customers between Cluculz Lake, Fort Fraser, and Stuart River arrived at about 3:30 p.m.
Handy theft
Over the night of Jan. 8, tools worth $1,500 to $2,000 were taken from a company vehicle on Second Street. The RCMP is increasing patrols in the area to deter theft.
Cutting corners tight in RCMP’s 100th 2017 file
At about 6 p.m. on Jan. 11, a transport truck’s hay load slipped into the ditch as the vehicle turned southward from Braeside Road onto Highway 27. The truck and its driver suffered no damage nor injuries.
Future looked bright
An intoxicated man was caught red-handed stealing sunglasses at a local convenience store a 3 p.m. on Jan. 6.
Upon search, another pair of shades were found in the man’s possession as well.
He was arrested and released for charges of theft.
Show’s too good
A television and room key were stolen from a Vanderhoof motel, as reported to the police in the evening of Jan. 5. Renter of the room with the missing items said the room was reserved for his son and daughter. Investigation continues.
