Jayne Ingram wants to return to the council table in Lake Cowichan.
Ingram, who served two terms as a town councillor from 2008 to 2014, has thrown her hat in the ring to replace Rod Peters as mayor of the community in the byelection on Oct. 24.
She said her long involvement in the community, including serving as vice-chairwoman of the Cowichan Lake Senior Citizen Housing Society and a founding member of Cowichan Lake’s 100-Plus Women’s charity group, has helped her hone her leadership and organizational skills and would serve her well as mayor.
“I have a great love for this community and would make a good partner for council and staff to work with,” Ingram said.
“My only interest as mayor would to be a good leader and help move the community forward.”
Ingram was born and raised in Lake Cowichan and returned with her family to live in the town permanently in 2000.
She and her husband opened BRI Security & Consulting Services, which works with the forest industry, in 2005 and the company is still in operation.

Ingram said one of her main priorities, if elected, is to increase the transparency at municipal hall.
“I’m a big advocate of live-streaming our council meetings, which is very important in this time of COVID-19, and providing much more information to the community on our website, including about paving, piping and other municipal projects that are underway,” she said.
“I’m also a big supporter of healthy alternatives and I would like to see a lot more outdoor equipment in the town, and also a gym brought here. I would also support a trail from near the arena to Honeymoon Bay. That would be a great addition.”
Ingram also said she would be fiscally responsible as mayor, and work towards partnering with the local First Nations and forest industry in infrastructure and other projects.
