The NVSS Junior Viqueen volleyball players came out in full force this season with over 30 girls at the tryouts – enough to make three teams; Junior A, Junior B1, and Junior B2.
The Junior A team attended several tournaments this season, coached by Jessy Andres, Denise Wiens, and Val Erickson.
They played in the Ice Breaker tournament in September at College Heights and finished seventh, then they travelled to Kamloops the following weekend for the TRU tournament. After several very close games in the round robin, the girls moved into the consolation draw. Here they won a series of games to make it to the finals, but lost in a very hard fought battle in three sets to Sahli and finished tenth overall.
In October, the NVSS Juniors hosted a Saturday play date at NVSS; the Jr A team won all their games and finished first. At the end of October the girls played in the DP Todd tournament (Pool A). Three of the four round robin games went to 3 sets, moving the girls once again to the consolation draw. After a series of wins, they made it to the finals and lost in 3 sets to BV Christian, finishing 2nd in the consolation draw, 10th overall.
During the Omineca League play, the Jr A team went undefeated. They hosted and traveled to FSJSS, LDSS, and FLESS. At the Omineca Regional tournament on Nov 2 hosted by LDSS, they were undefeated in the round robin; 25-12, 23-25, 15-8 over LDSS, 25-15, 25-19 vs FSJSS and 25 -21, 25- 21 vs FLESS. They met FLESS in the finals winning in 2 sets: 25-16 and 25-20. They now advance to Zones on Nov 8th and 9th hosted by Duchess Park in Prince George.
“This team has been very dedicated and worked hard all season,” said Val Erickson. “Each and every one of them contributed to the team’s success this year. It was neat to see each player develop their skills which allowed them the ability to play more than one position; whether it was as a Setter, Power, Middle, or Offside.”
Game plays were well set up and executed by Setters Riley Wiens, Abby Delisle, and Mikaela Turner, all three also play Offside hitters. We saw many attacks and blocks from the Middle hitters Kassidy Dick, Emma Floris, Sydney Andres and Sara Montague (also a Power Hitter) . As well as power hits and blocks from our Power and Offside Hitters; Jordan Andres, Kiah Persson, Taylor Philips, and Maddy Blattner.
The B1 team played in the Omineca league hosting home games and travelling to Burns Lake, Fort St James, and Fraser Lake. They attended a tournament at DP Todd in October and won the consolation draw finishing 9th overall in Pool B. They also played in the Omineca regional tournament hosted by LDSS in Burns Lake, winning all their games and placing first in Pool B
The B2 team played in the Omineca league hosting home games and travelling to Burns Lake, Fort St James, and Fraser Lake. They also played in the Omineca regional tournament hosted by LDSS in Burns Lake, and tied for third in Pool B.
