Just for the Health of It helps hospital

Donation exceeds $5,000

Central GM participated in a big way this spring to raise money for the South Cariboo Health Foundation (SCHF) to make another donation to health care in the community.

SCHF public relations fundraising co-ordinator Brenda Devine says the Just for the Health of It fundraising campaign raised about $5,300 for the SCHF through the generosity of Central GM owner Tom Bachynski, with the community’s support.

It is being used to purchase a portable Broda chair for use at the 100 Mile District General Hospital and the hospital’s residential care wings, Fischer Place/Mill Site Lodge, she explains.

Devine says Bachynski agreed to $200 for every vehicle sold (for over $5,000) during April to this worthy cause, which also helped raise awareness of what the foundation does for the community.

Then on Hot Dog Day at Central GM on April 22, every test drive by members of the public between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. resulted in an additional $5 each to the campaign, with more also raised from the hot dog sales and public donations, she explains.

The hospital foundation is very grateful to Bachynski for holding this second annual event again this year, Devine says, adding he also added some other funds from things like windshield replacements and oil changes in April to boost the amount a bit further.

Supporting the health foundation in its quest for new Broda chairs is important, as this patient care equipment helps transport many patients almost anywhere in the South Cariboo Health Centre with much more comfort, safety and ease, she explains.

Devine says each one costs about $4,000. Adding that the SCHF is looking to help the hospital purchase a total of three Broda chairs for its various patient mobility needs and will continue its fundraising efforts toward those, along with other equipment.
