In 2008 Fire Chief Gulahm Hazrat came to B.C., spending time here in the Fort, to further his training as a firefighter. He made an impact on our firefighters here before he and his team had to go back to Afganistan. Last Tuesday Fire Chief Rob Bennett found out Hazrat had been at the Kandahar Police station during a Taliban attack, wounding him critically. He has now been taken to a hospital in Pakistan where the hospital is capable of undertaking the surgery he requires. Canadians Sending Afghanistan FireFighting (CANS.A.F.E.), the organization that brought him to Canada is fundraising to get him the $30,000 Canadian for the surgery he requires. the City council has voted to support him with a $500 donation and Chief Bennett is asking for a similar donation from the Firefighter’s Association.
