Kaslo May Days has been cancelled as part of several changes being made by the village to contain the spread of COVID-19.
In a statement released Monday, chief administrative officer Ian Dunlop said the popular May Days event scheduled for May 30 would not go ahead.
“The village will consult with the partners and stakeholders to see if it’s possible to plan another event later this year,” wrote Dunlop.
Dunlop also announced Kaslo’s skate park and Vimy Park playground are being closed, and that RCMP would enforce the closure with increased patrols.
Garbage and recycling collection will continue, Dunlop said, and residents don’t need to include a paid tag. Staff are present at the Kaslo transfer station, but aren’t accepting payments for residential waste. Residents are limited to household garbage with a maximum one pick-up truck load per week.
Commercial customers will still be billed as normal.
The village office meanwhile is open by appointment only, with staff available by phone (250-353-2111, ext. 101) or email (admin@kaslo.ca).
Public works crews continue to maintain essential services, Dunlop added.
“We realize these are very difficult and uncertain times for business owners, employees and everyone in our community, but provincial and federal orders must be obeyed.”
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story stated there are no staff present at the Kaslo transfer station. Staff continue to work at the station.
