This year, the community raised a new record-high in donations with $201,726.70. The money donated will be used for a number of services in Okanagan communities such as veterans, cadet programs, bursaries and youth programs.
“The money goes a long way because we have to spend it all every year,” said Kelowna Legion service officer Jim Jones.
“It all goes out to community services and to veterans and their families so it means a great deal.”
The Legion picked up from last year’s total where over $200,000 was raised for the Poppy Fund in 2018, all of which went to help in various areas throughout the community.
Last year, 16.5 per cent of the raised funds were allocated to Veteran’s assistance, 21 per cent was distributed to bursaries, nearly 10 per cent was given to the local Cadet Corps and the final 20 per cent was donated to the Kelowna mobile dental clinic.
