Calling all past winners of Kelowna civic awards—the city wants to talk to you.
The awards, celebrating 40 years in 2015, will be handed out April 30 at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
And to help mark the anniversary, organizers are trying to contact as many past winners as possible, especially those who still live here, in the hope they will have photographs of themselves with the their awards.
Copies of the photos will be used in a video montages to accompany the presentation of each award handed out in the upcoming ceremony.
According to Amber Gilbert, the city staff person organizing the anniversary award ceremony, some past winners have already been located and spoken to.
But she would like to find more past winners, especially those from the early days of the awards.
Each past winner will be given a ticket to the upcoming ceremony, will be recognized at the event and will have their name on a list projected on a screen when the awards are handed out.
Gilbert said while the awards are officially 40 years old, some of the individual awards date back much farther.
For instance, the Augie Ciancone Memorial Award, which recognizes the top male and female high school athletes in the city, was first handed out by the school district in 1954.
The Sarah Donalda Treadgold Award for woman of the year was first awarded in the 1960s and was incorporated into the city awards in the 1970s.

Meanwhile, the nomination period is now officially underway for the 2015 awards.
Nomination forms are available at the city’s website—kelowna.ca/residents—or at any city office or facility, including City Hall and the Parkinson Recreation Centre.
Gilbert said the forms walk nominators through the process and indicate what supporting documents are needed, including support letters and any other materials, such as newspaper articles about the person being nominated.
Nomination packages must be returned to the city by Feb 13th and cannot exceed eight pages in length.
