The Kelowna peewee tier 3 Rockets are used to going to battle on the weekends in the Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey League.
But this weekend, they are fighting for another cause as the peewees are dropping their mitts, and the rest of the their gear, as they set up to raise money and food for the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
The peewee Rockets will be at Choices Market on Harvey Ave. in Kelowna this Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. collecting food and cash for the food bank.
“This time of the year is really important to give back to those in need,” said team parent Nicole Lundy, who added the players decided to take part in Kelowna Minor Hockey and the Kelowna Rockets fill the net challenge.
Anyone who donates a minimum of $25 of food or money will be entered for a draw prize of a pair of golf passes for Black Mountain Golf Course.
The hockey players aren’t the only ones thinking about the food bank at this time of the year. Many groups have been raising money for the cause.
